It is a landlocked country in the Carpathian Basin of Central Europe and has borders with Austria, the Slovak Republic, Ukraine, Romania, Serbia, Croatia, and Slovenia. Its capital is Budapest.

Hungary has been a member state of the European Union since 1^st May 2004.
